Very old fixed variety already known before 1800 and originating in the USA for some and Italy for others.

This historic tomato was named in honor of Umberto I, King of Italy in 1878.

Fruit of about 50 grams, scarlet red, cylindrical to oval with the presence of a small nipple/tip. Bouquet of 6 to 8 fruits.

Full, thick flesh containing little gel.

Slightly sweet flavor, to be reserved for making sauces and coulis.

Abundant production from mid-season until frost. Very good keeping capacity.

nb: In Italy, whole plants were harvested in the fall and immature fruits continued to ripen indoors for long periods of time.
