PURPLE ROSE SMUDGE

Origin USA. Small fruit weighing 60 to 150 grams, round with dark pink skin speckled with purple spots on the shoulders.

SKU: 707 Category:

Variety resulting from a cross of 'Stokesdale (Rutgers x Pan American)' as female parent and 'San Marzano (Michigan State Forcing x Lycopersicum peruvianum)' as male parent, made by Dr. VM Watts of the University of Arkansas. Given to USDA in 1962 and listed in the SSE in 1987.

Small, round fruit weighing 60-150 grams with dark pink skin speckled with purple spots on the shoulders, which tend to fade when fully ripe. (These spots are even darker, almost black, if the fruit has been exposed to the sun; the use of low nitrogen fertiliser also contributes to accentuating this character). No depression at the stem attachment and no trace of umbilicus. 5 sepals.

Flesh red, juicy, sweet taste. Good production.
