Originally from Italy, more specifically Sicily, where it is grown in the province of Ragusa and Syracuse, in former salt marshes. A “winter” tomato, it is harvested very late, between January and March.
Costoluto” fruit weighing 100 to 150 grams, flattened and deeply ribbed.
Thick skin changing from green to fire-engine red, with traces of green remaining when ripe.
Fleshy and juicy, with an intense sweet and slightly acid taste.
Large plant, regular foliage, indeterminate growth.
Harvested between January and March, when the green skin begins to turn a deeper red.
