Very old variety, already known in 1889, originating from Germany, named after the river Elbe. Featured in the Seed Savers Yearbook 1997.

Fruit dark yellow to orange, 200 to 400 grams, beefsteak type, round, flattened, with a wide and well pronounced ribbing on 2/3 of the body, more or less marked rippling of the shoulders. Depression at the peduncular attachment wide and moderately deep, trace of umbilicus in circular spot.

Fleshy beefy flesh with a not 'great' texture, small lodges, sweet and sour flavour, good without more. It is advisable to ripen well, the flavour will be better, wait until they turn from yellow to orange.
