One legend has it that the original seeds were found in an Egyptian pyramid, in fact it is much more likely that the pyramid was Inca if they were found in a pyramid!

There are two varieties in circulation with the same name which is a source of confusion ....

One is said to be flattened and strongly ribbed at the top with a deep depression at the stem attachment. Producing red fruits with green shoulders, from 150 to 300 gr, late. (source French site)

The other is said to be elongated to heart-shaped, producing fleshy red fruits weighing 120 to 180 grams, mid-season (source: American website).

The various sources agree that it is a productive variety, that the fruits have a dense flesh with good flavour and are suitable for cooking (preserves or coulis).
