A heirloom variety whose seed was obtained from an old lady in North Carolina who had been growing it for decades and named it "Cherokee black". Darker version of Cherokee purple without the green shoulder patches, superior flavour and higher yield.
Fruit is dark purple/black, medium to large, beefsteak type, irregular and variable in shape, sometimes with a nipple on the umbilicus.
Not very vigorous plant with moderate development, regular foliage, indeterminate growth.
Remarkable production from mid-season to frost.
