Very old heirloom variety (1889) native to Virginia, which was awarded the Grand Prize for quality at the Jamestown Exposition in 1907. Commercially introduced by Wood and Sons of Richmond, Virginia and has been in the catalog for 60 years. May be a development of Ponderosa.

Large pinkish-purple fruit weighing from 300 grams to more than a kilo, flattened and with a large and discreet ribbing at the top.

Flesh of beef, with a beautiful texture, firm and practically without core, containing few seeds. Sweet and fruity flavor.

Tendency to burst. Very vigorous variety.
